One is chess with hours spend on and time left behind, forgotten for deep involvement sake. The other is tic-tac-toe quick and fun.
You're right it depends upon mood. Sometimes you're in a deeeeeeeeeep dive exploring, bit by bit suspense unraveling mood the other you just want to read few words that shoo the lingering boredom/doubt/worrisome away.
And well i'm both:
Playing tic tac toe in some split lethargic moments of boredom to get a lil refreshment. And chess for hours moving pieces, taking long hours indulging in exploring stories (possibilities) behind every action as turning pages after pages discovering something new with every turned page with every new move.
And believe me while i'm reading something loooong i take a break and read some short quotes or some short story and it's astonishing that i mostly stummble upon words that resonates what i'm currently reading and makes it more interesting. Like both brief and depth tangling twisting turning making the final product more exciting..
I think you are spot on with your chess vs tic tac toe comment there, it’s like exercise, sometimes you want a quick 20 minute weight session, other times a three hour run is what you need.
