Anyone else on Bluesky? Would you like to have your "handle" as your Substack address?
I’ve updated my Bluesky handle to @thecuriousdetour.substack.com to create a seamless connection between my Substack and Bluesky profiles. This way, everything feels consistent, and it’s easier for people to find and explore my writing. Plus, having my Substack address directly in my handle makes it simple for anyone interested to check out my work, no extra searching required. Keeping things straightforward and connected!
It's quite simple to do although the Substack instructions weren't that helpful, so I thought I would cobble together a quick guide.
If you are already over on Bluesky, I would love to connect. This is how you change from something like @thecuriousdetour.bsky.social to @thecuriousdetour.substack.com
First off head over to https://bsky.app/settings/account and log in if you haven't already, you can do it on a phone if you "enable desktop view".
Click "Handle", then “I have my own domain”
You’ll need to copy the text from the “Value” section, but not all of it, only that from after the “=” sign.
In the image above it’s the lower green rectangle, it will look longer than in the image, I have edited it for privacy.
Then from a browser, head to your Substack settings page, i.e. mine is: https://thecuriousdetour.substack.com/publish/settings
Scroll down to the Domain section. Here you’ll see your “domain” under the “Use your domain on Bluesky” part. If you actually have your own domain, I’m honestly not sure if it’s any different so your milage may vary.
Paste in your “did:plc” code that you copied from bluesky and click “Submit”.
Then, copy everything after the “@” as highlighted in grey in the image above and head back over to Bluesky.
Paste it into the box at the top as illustrated in the image above and click “Verify DNS Record”
Then click “Verify DNS Record” and once verified confirm the change.
Your new Bluesky handle will be live in a few minutes.
Now come follow me, I need some friends over there, my feed is all US politics at the moment, and no matter how many times I click “Show less like this” it still finds its way in! I need some interesting people to follow.
I’m still not 100% sold on Bluesky, I do prefer notes here but different places offer different perspectives.
What! I will definitely check out BlueSky!
Thank you for this helpful instruction!
